What to do?

From July 20, 2011

I'm at a crossroads of sorts. Do I turn left and head to where I thought I was going, or turn right and see what might become of something else. Vague, I know, and will now explain. After completing the first four chapters of The Last Day, I feel compelled to abandon the project. There are several reasons for this. 1) Writer's Block: it's a bitch, really. I have the beginning and I know the end, but how to get there? Sounds philosophical, don't it? This has been frustrating me for about a month now. I've rewritten the outline like 5 times and nothing is working. 2) About that outline...it's kind of grim. Don't get me wrong, I love the story, but from where I'm standing I'm not really seeing the story's progression. What I mean is that I will spend the entire story building up this character, having her learn things and having experiences that will not save her in the end. I guess, I'm writing a tragedy. Maybe that's not so bad, but I'm not sure how I'd sell it. 3) So, Eyes in Atlantis has just been released...and its sequel, The Deluge, is close behind. I've said before that I never intended to write a sequel to EiA. Upon its completion, the ideas for what became The Deluge just flooded into my head until I had to write them down for fear of exploding. Okay, I may be exaggerating, but it was kind of traumatic. Well, guess what? History has repeated itself. I have a page of notes for a third book in the series and even more ideas up in my head. My intention until now was to complete The Last Day and then write the second sequel to EiA, but I fear that my generation-y mind (expecting instant gratification) won't let me wait for much longer. So there's my dilemma. I have not yet decided what I'm going to do. There are many reasons for me to finish The Last Day. I've always wanted to write this book (ever since I dreamt it) and it would be a huge success for me to just finish it, but...sigh. Is anyone feeling me yet? Am I just driving myself crazy? On the lighter side of the moon, I invite you to check out my profile on Goodreads.com. There you'll find a list of the books I've read, some reviews, books I plan to read, and even some writing samples. If you're a member of Goodreads, add me to your list. Until later... GMG, confused
